WHAT: The DJAM NYC event is back for one night featuring the AMAZING Raya Brass Band who will hypnotize you with their infectious music. Put on your dancing shoes and prepare to sweat. Kaeshi Chai is your dance party facilitator.
WHO: Since 2008 Raya Brass Band has thrilled audiences with its energetic brand of soul shaking, border defying dance music. Given the way these musicians electrify clubs, festivals, underground parties, and even subway cars with their riotous performances, it’s no wonder that they’re often mistaken for a band twice the size. The members of the band all bring their unique voices to the group, creating a sound informed as much by their love for the fierce and seductive music of the Balkans as it is by New Orleans brass bands, punk rock, out jazz, and a host of other international sounds. Kaeshi Chai is a world-fusion bellydancer and teacher trainer who co-founded the professional dance company Bellyqueen and PURE (Public Urban Ritual Experiment), an international community of artists who create positive change through dance and music. Kaeshi has performed and taught internationally, and is an alumni member of the Bellydance Superstars, and Jillina’s Bellydance Evolution. She curated the weekly Djam NYC event showcasing dancers and musicians from 2007-2017, and teaches at the Bellyqueen School of Dance and Steps on Broadway.
